Biologia populacional de Pachyurus bonariensis Steindachner, 1879 (Perciformes, Sciaenidae), uma espécie alóctone no sistema hidrográfico da laguna dos patos, Brasil Biota Neotropica
Dufech,Ana Paula Sassanovicz; Fialho,Clarice Bernhardt.

Diet and body shape among populations of Bryconamericus iheringii (Otophysi: Characidae) across the Campos Sulinos ecosystem Neotropical Ichthyology
Kokubun,Érika Endo; Bonato,Karine Orlandi; Burress,Edward D.; Fialho,Clarice Bernhardt.
ABSTRACT Alterations in natural landscapes, mainly caused by anthropic pressures, have been threatening the world’s biomes, including aquatic environments and its biota. This study describes the diet of Bryconamericus iheringii, and how its body shape relates to environmental variables in populations of 22 streams. A wide array of food items were found, mainly composed of allochthonous plants (50.5%) and autochthonous invertebrates (25.2%). Even though food items remained almost the same, the predominant food group significantly differed among streams, mainly in relation to environmental characteristics. There was variation in body shape primarily associated with body depth and length of the pre-dorsal region; however, these differences did not correspond...

Diet-morphology relationship in the stream-dwelling characid Deuterodon stigmaturus (Gomes, 1947) (Characiformes: Characidae) is partially conditioned by ontogenetic development Neotropical Ichthyology
Dala-Corte,Renato Bolson; Silva,Eliane Regina da; Fialho,Clarice Bernhardt.
ABSTRACT We tested whether interindividual variations in diet composition within a population of Deuterodon stigmaturus can be explained by morphological differences between individuals, and whether diet-morphology relationships are dependent on the ontogenetic development. We analyzed diet of 75 specimens sampled in a coastal stream of Southern Brazil. Variation in stomach content was summarized with a Principal Coordinate Analysis (PCoA). The retained PCoA axes were tested as response to standard length (SL), and to values of intestine length (IL) and mouth length (ML) independent of body size, using linear mixed-effects models (LMM). The most consumed food items by D. stigmaturus were filamentous algae (41%), terrestrial plants (20.3%), detritus (12%),...

Fishes community composition and patterns of species distribution in Neotropical streams Biota Neotropica
Cavalheiro,Laísa Wociechoski; Fialho,Clarice Bernhardt.
Abstract: The ichthyofauna of streams in the Neotropical region is not yet fully known. This study aims to investigate the ichthyofauna composition of six streams of the Ijuí River sub-basin, Rio Grande do Sul State, inserted in the Uruguay River basin, as to contribute to the knowledge of fishes species richness and distribution in the south of Brazil. Sampling was carried out between July 2015 and May 2016, bimonthly, using the technique of electric fishing to collect the fishes. Spatial variations (per sampled stream) in the ichthyofauna composition were tested with a permutational multivariate analysis of variance. In total, we collected 5,029 individuals from 55 species, 13 families and five orders. From these species, 17 are endemic to the Uruguay...

Reproductive biology of a population of Gymnotus aff.carapo (Teleostei: Gymnotidae) from southern Brazil Neotropical Ichthyology
Cognato,Diego de Paula; Fialho,Clarice Bernhardt.
The reproductive period and its relation with somatic and abiotic factors, the relative and absolute fecundity, spawning type, length of first maturation and sex ratio is describe for Gymnotus aff.carapo from a small lake at Itapuã State Park, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Gymnotus aff. carapo presents a relatively long reproductive cycle extending from November/2003 to March/2004. Decreases in water conductivity and increases in dissolved oxygen are correlated with increased gonadal development in males. In females, seasonal increases in temperature and photoperiod and decreases in dissolved oxygen are correlated with increased gonadal development. The mean absolute fecundity was 915.3 oocytes, and mean relative fecundity 0.20 oocytes/mg body weight. Egg...

Reproductive biology of Bryconamericus iheringii (Ostariophysi: Characidae) from rio Vacacaí, RS, Brazil Neotropical Ichthyology
Lampert,Vinicius Renner; Azevedo,Marco Aurélio; Fialho,Clarice Bernhardt.
In this paper we describe some aspects of the reproduction and development of secondary sexual characters of Bryconamericus iheringii, based on the analysis of 194 females and 210 males collected monthly in the rio Vacacaí (30º21'34"S and 54º18'48"W), from April 2001 to March 2002. The reproductive period occurred from September to January (spring and summer in the Southern Hemisphere), as described for other characids of the same area. The absolute fecundity mean was 933.71 ± 303.10 oocytes, and the relative fecundity mean was 0.36 ± 0.08 oocytes per mg of total weight, being the species a multiple spawner. There was no correlation between the values of GSI and variation of biotic (stomach repletion and hepatosomatic indexes) and abiotic data (rainfall,...

Reproductive biology of Bryconamericus stramineus Eigenmann, 1908 (Ostariophysi: Characidae) from the Rio Ibicuí, RS, Brazil BABT
Lampert,Vinicius Renner; Azevedo,Marco Aurélio; Fialho,Clarice Bernhardt.
Reproduction of Bryconamericus stramineus was described based on the analysis of 208 females and 166 males collected monthly in the Rio Ibicuí, from April 2001 through March 2002. Reproduction occurred between September and December, with a lower peak in February. The mean absolute fecundity was 371.3 (± 244.6) oocytes and the mean relative fecundity was 0.35 (± 0.08) oocytes/mg of total weight and the fish was a multiple spawner. A weak correlation between GSI of males and day length was observed. Other parameters (stomach repletion and hepatosomatic index, rainfall and temperature) did not show any correlation with GSI. However, some of these factors might act as "starters" of gonadal maturation. The presence and frequency of fin ray hooks on the males...

Trophic strategy of Atlantirivulus riograndensis (Cyprinodontiformes: Rivulidae), a non-annual rivulid threatened by extinction, in a perennial environment, Brazil) Neotropical Ichthyology
Cavalheiro,Laísa Wociechoski; Fialho,Clarice Bernhardt.
ABSTRACT Rivulidae includes non-annual fish of perennial habitats and annual fish of temporary wetlands. The objective of this research was to investigate the trophic strategy of Atlantirivulus riograndensis in a perennial environment. Sampling occurred in an environmental conservation unit in the Pampa biome, Brazil. Quantification of the diet followed the volumetric method. Consumption of autochthonous material as the main food source of the species followed the pattern of Rivulidae. Species is zooplanktonic when young. Food spectrum is broadened and insectivorousness increases with ontogeny, revealing a specialist trend in the feeding strategy of A. riograndensis. The most diverse feeding occurs in the spring and summer seasons in which the presence of...
